Ripon’s New Light exciting arts project wins backing

Ripon-based art charity New Light is launching an exciting new venture for art in the north.

After the success of its annual prize exhibition, it hopes to create something more permanent - a collection of contemporary Northern art which we will then offer for display in public venues such as schools and hospitals in the region.

And the idea is making speedy progress, partly because of a donation by SAL - Service to the Arts in Leeds.

Annette Petchey, CEO of New Light, said: “We are very grateful for SAL’s generous donation. The New Light Collection will perfectly complement the work we already do to celebrate the wealth of skills-based art being produced in the north today, including the New Light Biennial Open Prize Exhibition which will be held later this year at the Bowes Museum in County Durham.

In another important new initiative, New Lights is expanding entries for its 2015 New Light Open Exhibition in May to all age groups.

The £10,000 prize competition will now be open to all artists with a connection to the North of England.
