Based in Ripon, the couple’s business, The Sawley Kitchen, is no stranger to winning awards.

Founded in 2012, this independent firm fought off stiff competition from hundreds of businesses to be awarded Best Food Producer in the Flavours of Herriot Country Awards in its very first year of trading.

Now the artisan bakehouse has been shortlisted for two more prestigious awards - Taste of Yorkshire in the Welcome to Yorkshire’s White Rose Awards and Food Producer of the Year in the Flavours of Herriot Country Awards.

As much a labour of love as a business, the biscuit bakery prides itself in showcasing quality local ingredients wherever possible.

Everything is done by hand and every batch is tested for flavour.

Robin, who has 30 years of experience in the hospitality industry, said: “The Sawley Kitchen was born after we were both made redundant and we couldn’t have hoped for it to have gone any better!

“As a small team of seven, the award shortlistings are great recognition for all of our team’s hard-work and dedication.”

The bakehouse supplies bespoke hotel biscuits for guests in Yorkshire hotels.
