Poetry, Prose & Pints celebrates fifth birthday

A new book of local writing is to be published to mark the fifth birthday of popular Harrogate literary group Poems, Prose and Pints.

This pub-based, monthly gathering of like-minded souls first met at the Tap & Spile in 2009. Its approach was a dual one. Firstly. to welcome all forms of writing - with an open invitation to read whatever you bring in public in an open mic setting - but without a critique afterwards.

Secondly, to welcome high quality published writers to give guest readings.

Organiser and poet Tim Ellis has now put together a celebratory anthology called How Am I Doing For Time?.

This 80-page book features poetry, prose and play scripts by 44 of Poems, Prose & Pints’ regular open mic readers and past special guest readers, which includes some of the finest writers in Yorkshire and beyond.

Edited byEllis, it also has a foreward by PPP founder Nicola Everill and will be available from Amazon.

The new anthology will be launched at P, P & P’s regular monthly meeting at the Tap & Spile next Wednesday, September 17 where a number of contributors will read some of their work.

The evening, which starts at 7.30pm, will also feature a guest reading by award-winning poet Winston Plowes from Hebden Bridge.

Inspired by the local landscape and his day-to-day life with his teenage daughter, he appears regularly as both compère and performer at events across the country, including hosting his own night The Spoken Word Shindig in Hebden.
