Open studios event set to showcase area’s talented artists

For two weekends - June 6-7 and June 13-14 - more than 100 artists across the county are opening the doors to their studios and inviting everyone to come inside and have a look.

This popular event brings together artists working in many different styles and materials, including printmakers, hatmakers, woodcarvers and photographers, all keen to reveal the imagination and hard graft behind each piece of art.

At Artison in Masham visitors can see intriguing assemblages by Josie Beszant, landscapes by Ian Scott Massie and quirky ceramics by Charlotte Morrison which reflect her love of collecting vintage objects.

In nearby Mickley there will be mixed media artists Anna Poulton and Stuart Whitehead as well as mosaic artist Ruth Wilkinson.

Event director Rick Faulkner of North Yorkshire-based Chrysalis Arts said: “North Yorkshire Open Studios offers so much more than a trip to a gallery.

“It’s a chance to talk to the artists, find out what makes them tick and learn about the techniques they use in their work.”

Now in its eleventh year, North Yorkshire Open Studios has become one of the highlights of the county’s cultural calendar.
