‘One of UK’s best mini-festivals’ starts today in Knaresborough

She’s the drama graduate who’s managed to create one of the UK’s most cutting edge mini festivals - and she’s got a busy time ahead of her as the event returns to Knaresborough this weekend.

This year’s Release the Hounds festival, which runs from Friday, September 11 to Sunday, September 13 will see the talented Steph Jones introduce an incredible 22 widely varying acts over three exciting days.

A platform for the best in contemporary spoken word and live performance art, part of RtH’s success has always been its challenging nature.

And ex-King James’s School and Harrogate Ladies College student Steph has a real coup this time round.

Renowned ‘immersive’ theatre company Blast Theory’s production Dial Ulrike and Eamon Compliant will put the audience in the shoes of a terrorist.

The show runs 24 hours a day in the streets of Knaresborough and requires each potential audience members to dial a phone number to be placed in a scenario involving bombings and kidnappings.

Steph said: Blast Theory are a brilliant company I learnt about when I was doing my masters. This will be something totally new and unique for Knaresborough.”

As well as the thought-provoking, Release the Hounds also serves up star names and fun events. Visitors can have a personalised poem written for them at the Poetry Takeaway in the Market Place.

And Saturday evening includes a show at Art in the Mill by the witty Molly Naylor who has just written a show for Sky TV.
