It’s been my favourite music weekend of the year for quite a while - and it’s exciting news that Live at Leeds has now been recognised nationwide with a major award.

Organisers Futuresound are celebrating after winning the UK Festival Award for Best Metropolitan Festival.

Lal received the award from Huey Morgan at a star-studded ceremony at London’s Roundhouse.

The accolade marks a growing confidence in the Leeds live scene , so much so, in fact, that Futuresound have decided to expand Lal next year with a LaG - or Live at Glasgow.

Run in partnership with PCL Music Promotions, Live at Glasgow will have a similar format to the Leeds counterpart (which takes place on Saturday, May 2 next year) and will run on Sunday, May 3, 2015 in the Sauchiehall Street area of Glasgow.

Technically a weekend event, most of the exciting action at LaL happens on a glorious single day when more than 100 indie acts - big and small - play in a dozen or so venues across the city.

Colin Oliver, founder of Live at Leeds and director of Futuresound Events. said: “Live at Leeds has been a huge challenge for us to put together over the past eight years but it is worth it when you get recognition from the industry like this and when you see bands we have hosted take off internationally.

“Getting this award is a credit to the hard work of the team at Live At Leeds and to all the people who have been involved over the years, particularly within the city.”
