He’s not quite a household name yet but he may well become so one day, local singer-songwriter Jamie Bevan comes out of the shadows into the limelight at Monteys Rock Café in Harrogate next Wednesday for a ‘Release the Hounds’ charity gig.

Starbeck-based Jamie has a single coming out called Docey Broke whose proceeds are going to the Royal British Legion.

His headlining slot next week at Monteys is also designed to raise awareness of Poppy Day and the work the Royal British Legion does.

Jamie, who is a keen charity volunteer in general, originally started off performing Damien Rice songs and other artists’ tracks before gradually integrating his own well-written originals.

The show is the first live musical presentation by Steph Jones, the organiser of Knaresborough’s brilliant literary performance festival Release the Hounds.

Jamie, whose sound blends acoustic melodic rhythms with rootsy indie-folk undertones, said:”I have volunteered for the Poppy Appeal for three years now selling poppies and helping out in the office, too.

“I think the Royal British Legion is one of the most important charities and I have, and will always, want to do everything I can to support it.

“The CDS will be available in poppy boxes around Yorkshire and it can be downloaded from my website. Every penny from the song and the evening at Montey’s will go to the poppy appeal.”

Next week’s live show at Monteys features other talented local musicians on the bill, including Rufus Beckett, Adam Tait and Martin Rose.

The event poster was designed by NY design of Harrogate.
