Harrogate’s Echo 42 Big Band has hit the big screen in the new British movie A Royal Night Out.

Launched nationwide from May 15, the musicians were specially chosen for the movie’s dance hall scene, appearing as a British Army swing band playing in London’s Chelsea Barracks in front of a crowd including young Princess Elizabeth and her younger sister Margaret.

The film is based on the true story of how the young princesses joned the London crowds’ incognito during the VE Day celebrations. Our picture shows them in the film.

Produced by Liongate Films with support by Screen Yorkshire, the movie stars Emily Watson playing Queen Elizabeth and King George VI, respectively, with newcomers Sarah Gadon and Bel Powley in the role of the young royal princesses.

A Royal Night Out is currently showing at Harrogate Odeon.
