Harrogate rock bands play for Chris Bramhall at Bilton WMC

It’s called ‘Metal Thunder’ and it’s going to be loud - but it’s all for charity in memory of a much-missed young Harrogate man.

After the success of last year’s charity gig for the Fighting Ependymoma, the family-friendly event returns on Saturday, October 17 with a host of local rock bands.

To be held at Bilton WMC this Saturday, the event is in tribute to the memory of late Harrogate resident Chris Bramhall who died in 2013.

Chris was born in Harrogate in 1991, and went to Coppice Valley Primary School and Harrogate High.

He was first diagnosed with the rare cancer at just eight-years-old, and, despite periods of remission and many different treatments, he lost his battle against the disease at the age of 21.

His mother Sara Wilson said: “He was a talented guitarist and musician and managed also to earn four belts in Kung Fu inbetween treatments.”

Saturday’s Metal Thunder show will raise funds for Fighting Ependymoma, the charity set up in Chris’s name to fund research into childhood cancers.

The event will start a 3pm with acoustic sessions from Pseudonympho splinter group Fistlicker, James Sant and Jim Thistlewhite.

The volume will then be turned up with sets from Meth Candy, Hung, Set Sails, Stiletto Farm, ERICBANA, Geist, and El Scorchios before FWF and Croak Ditch close the night.

There will also be DJ sets by George Miller of Harrogate’s pioneering electronic-dance act 601. Hot food will be available. Entry costs just £3.
