Harrogate braced for return of the Yorkshire Warrior

Billed as the ‘ultimate challenge’, The Yorkshire Warrior is a 10 mile obstacle course across the Yorkshire countryside which more than 2,300 participants took part in last year.

Husband and wife team Ian Bush and Danielle Brown launched the event in 2013 and have watched the event grow in terms of obstacles and popularity year on year.

This year, the organisers have promised that there will be new challenging obstacles, a five mile race for people not quite ready to tackle the full course, as well as the promise of an overall winner being crowned.

Danielle said she is hoping for 3,500 to take part in this year’s obstacle course and admitted she is still ‘overwhelmed’ by the positive reaction the race has had since its launch.

She said: “We have grown organically since starting in 2013 and I think we are doing so well because it is a friendly and personable race with many of the teams raising money for charity.

“For a small company like we are, I think we have really good obstacles including our underground tunnel which is a big reason why a lot of people come back to the event,

“We have had the same people coming back for the past three years and we know that because we can see that they have registered with us before. We have people coming from all over the country including people from Germany.

“It’s great to be able to welcome them back. When you see people out on the course raising money for charity it’s overwhelming because it’s such an achievement to complete such a tough course. It speaks for itself because there is thousands of pounds raised by the individuals.”

This year’s Yorkshire Warrior will be raising money for Harrogate based charity Thea’s Trust with volunteers collecting money for the charity on the day.

The event will take place on Saturday, April 18 at the Yorkshire Event Centre.
