Built originally in the mid-17th century, the Hales Bar has transformed its rear courtyard into what landlady Amanda J Wilkinson has called a lovely secret garden-themed area for guests to enjoy a beer in the outdoors in seclusion away from the roadside.Amanda said: “The area has been totally opened up, with flower beds and a stage built for the acoustic musicians. There’s also additional soft lighting and decorations of animals and woodland.”Previously the courtyard of this popular bar was used primarily as a rear “smoking area.”Now the internal hallway which leads to the back has been given the feel of a library.Customers will go through a forest setting door to gain entry to the ‘secret garden.’James and Nicki Cain from Harrogate Water, who are prominent supporters of the Hales Bar, will officially open the new area this Sunday at 3pm.Amanda said: “I thought it would be great to offer customers somewhere pretty and comfortable to sit outside where they are not sat by open roads and traffic to relax in a more private setting.”Two of the bar’s suppliers, Daleside Brewery and HB Clarks, have donated beer and prosecco. The first 50 guests will receive a complimentary drink and free hot dog.
