‘Goosebumps’ for Harrogate choir at Abbey Road

The contemporary choir, which is currently celebrating its tenth anniversary, joined up with other Rock Choir members from around Yorkshire to follow in the footsteps of music legends such as The Beatles, Pink Floyd, Elton John and Amy Winehouse.

Twenty-six members of Harrogate Rock Choir spent an unforgettable day which began with a tour of Studio Two; probably the most famous sound studio in the world, where among other albums The Beatles recorded Abbey Road album - the iconic cover of which features the Fab Four on the zebra crossing outside the studios.

One of the amateur singers, Sarah Harrison joined Harrogate Rock Choir two years ago.

She said: “Entering Studio One was a real goose bumps moment. The sense of history and occasion was tangible and the acoustics were completely mind-blowing. The sound we created was overwhelming and more than a few of us were in tears by the end.”

They then joined around 150 fellow ‘Rockies’ in Studio One, the world’s largest purpose-built sound studio to record special arrangements of Adele’s Someone Like You, Elbow’s One Day Like This and rock anthem You’re the Voice by John Farnham.

The choir members had less than two hours to achieve a perfect recording of three songs - Adele’s Someone Like You, Elbow’s One Day Like This and rock anthem You’re the Voice by John Farnham.

To their delight, they completed the recording session successfully with time to spare.

Choir leader Elliot Sutcliffe said: “All the members of Harrogate Rock Choir sang their hearts out and the end result is incredible. We are very grateful to Abbey Road Studios and its amazing sound engineers for looking after us so well and giving us a day we will never forget.”
