From Kaiser Chiefs to Cowtown at Major Tom’s

One of the organisers behind the return of Harrogate’s iconic rock music night Charm says it’s going to be the best indie music night of the year in town.

James Littlewood, who co-launched cult music mag Charm in 1997 and gave an early version of the Kaiser Chiefs their first-ever review in print, said:

“The Charm nights were an offshoot of the magazine. We had a great 10 years doing them and brought the likes of Wild Beasts, Cinerama, Hood to Harrogate, as well as local heroes like The Birdman Rallies.

“We’ve started again for no reason other than the challenge of doing something great and the chance to do it at Major Tom’s Social, a venue we love.”

The ticket-only event next Thursday, March 26 is going to be visually spectacular with a light show by VJ Quadrod, who will be creating the Charm Mix live.

The tracks have been selected by members of the Charm committee over the years, including Martin Hudson, Jonathan Goodwin, Richard Blackburn, Jeremy Grove, Jem Henderson, Rod Castro and Dave Procter.

Headliners Cowtown are one of the Leeds DIY scene’s most exciting live guitar and synth bands. Popular favourites at Leeds’ famous Brudenell Social Club, they have three albums under their belt, most recently Dudes vs Bad Dudes on The Audacious Art Experiment label.

Performing solo in support will be Dan Webster of The Birdman Rallies, whose latest album, Real River, was hailed as an “instant classic” by the Harrogate Advertiser.

This not-for-profit event will also see the return of Dicky’s Famous Buffet - free food for all!
