City of Leeds Youth Orchestra will be showcasing their classical music talents at Ripon Cathedral on Friday July 17.

The orchestra, comprised of nearly 100 young people between the ages of 13 and 19, will be performing Gurney’s War Elegy, Mozart’s Violin Concerto Number 3 in G, Samson and Delilah by Saint-Saens and Shostakovich’s Fifth Symphony in what will be their final concert of the year, starting at 7.30pm.

Founded over 40 years ago, the CLYO is currently headed up by Principal Conductor Dougie Scarfe who has a long musical history in the region and further afield, including four years with Opera North.

Dougie commented: “Ripon Cathedral is a magnificent setting for a concert and the orchestra is looking forward to the event which we hope will capture the imagination of local people keen to experience Yorkshire’s rich musical future.”

Tickets are available from Ripon Cathedral Shop or on the night priced at £10 for adults and £5 for students and the over 65s. Under 18s will be admitted free of charge. For more details visit www.clyo.org.uk.
