He may not have quite won last night but, by all reports, Harrogate’s Tom Taylor put on a sensational show in the final of THE biggest contest for new stand-up comics at the Edinburgh Fringe.
Performing in So You Think You’re Funny at the Edinburgh Fringe’s famous Gilded Balloon venue, the ex-Ashville College student impressed everyone but celebrity judge Sarah Millican.
Deliberations between Millican and the rest of the prestigious judging panel went on for an eternity before the winner was announced or, rather, winners.
For the first time in the competition’s 26-year history there were joint winners - Australian comic Demi Lardner and wildcard Edd Hedges.
Tom, a student at York University who runs the monthly Sitting Room comedy club he founded in Harrogate three years ago, now returns to Harrogate after a hugely successful Fringe hoping to follow in the footsteps of other So You Think You’re Funny finalists who didn’t quite make the grade: Johnny Vegas, Alan Carr, Ed Byrne and Russell Howard.
The next Sitting Room comedy club takes place at St George Hotel on Wednesday, September 11 and is a charity show for Yorkshire Cancer Research.
