A Harrogate café is bringing a Nordic twist to the town’s evening dining scene.

Scandinavian-inspired Baltzersen’s, on Oxford Street, has signed up Harrogate chef Murray Wilson in an executive chef role.

He’s done stints at the Michelin-starred Yorke Arms at Ramsgill, plus Van Zeller and Hotel du Vin.

“The food will be influenced by Nordic cuisine,” says the announcement on Baltzersen’s blog.

“It will use the freshest produce and embrace techniques for capturing and developing flavours (curing/pickling/fermenting) that can be offered out of season.

“We are pleased to be working with some new suppliers including [Ripon-based] R&J Butchers and [North Shields-based] Taylors Seafood.

“We will do away with starters, main courses and side orders.

“Instead we’ll offer a succinct highly seasonal selection of just six-eight plates and two desserts.

“Each plate will be a complete dish and you are encouraged to try as many or few as you like.

“A changing programme of bottled craft beers, wine and cocktails will be available to compliment the menu.”

Named ‘Nord’, the restaurant venture will start in April.
