Ripon’s young musicians will be battling it out in the city’s prestigious music competition this weekend.
Ripon Young Musicians of the Year is set to take place from this evening, Friday, October 14, at Holy Trinity Church.
The competition’s founder and organiser David Winpenny said: “Moving the time of the competition – and opening it up to a slightly wider geographical area – has shown how many good young musicians there are in the area; we have competitors from 24 different schools taking part.”
Organisers are encouraging music-lovers to attend the competition rounds and hear the winners and highly commended performers play at a concert tomorrow, Saturday, October 15 at 7.30pm, alongside string group Fiddlefingers.
Classes start at 7.15pm today with ‘Two Skills’ and a class for competitors in the top three years of secondary school. Ensembles and primary school children will perform from 9.30am on Saturday, and musicians in school years 7 to 10 from 2pm.
Admission to the competition on Friday evening from 7.15pm and Saturday from 9.30am is £2 and free for children.
