THERE’S an invitation to the house of fun this week when Harrogate St Andrew’s Players present an entertainment-packed musical at Harrogate Theatre.

Running from Tuesday, October 25 to Saturday, October 29, Our House is packed with wit, romance and a bagful of classic pop songs by 80s hitmakers Madness.

This lively musical includes well-known hits such as Baggy Trousers, House of Fun, NW5 and, of course, the show’s signature tune Our House.

The show follows such recent successes for HSAP as Fame, We Will Rock You, A Chorus Line and Little Shop of Horrors.

Our House combines a witty and expertly-crafted ‘Sliding Doors’ style romantic tale with energy, music and dancing.

The show tells the story of Joe Casey who, on the night of his 16th birthday, takes Sarah, the girl of his dreams, out on their first date.

In an effort to impress her with bravado, he breaks into a building site overlooking his home on Casey Street, North London, which is owned by Mr Pressman, a high-end property developer.

The police turn up, at which point Joe’s life splits into two: the Good Joe, who stays to help, and Bad Joe, who flees the scene.

Two versions of Joe’s life are then played out as a result of one life-changing decision - one version ending in happiness the other in tragedy.

HSAP, which was started by a group of drama enthusiasts in 1969 who put on No No Nanette at St Andrew’s Church Hall in Starbeck, is the first amateur group in the local area to present this well-crafted show to Harrogate audiences after it enjoyed a successful 10 month run in London’s West End back in 2002 and won a 2003 Laurence Olivier Award for Best New Musical.

British actress Barbara Windsor called for the show to be revived in theatres up and down the country after she recalled seeing it in the West End in 2002 on the BBC Radio 2 Elaine Paige show.

HSAP Chairman Jennifer Cowling said: “There’s certainly a real buzz around Our House at the moment and the cast are all feeling very excited and rehearsing extremely hard ahead of opening night.”

Tickets costing from £11 with concessions available for senior citizens and group bookings are available on 01423 502116 to book or visit www.harrogatetheatre.co.uk
