The profile of Harrogate’s Rock Up and Sing! choir has soared recently, especially after their participation in the the X Factor version of Ilkla Moor Baht ‘At, penned by songwriter Eliot Kennedy.
As backing choir to soprano Lesley Garrett , the ever popular and successful family of Yorkshire proud Rock Up choirs have thoroughly enjoyed their part in this exciting project, alongside Brian Blessed, the Yorkshire Regiment and Fame Academy’s Alistair Griffin.
Rhiannon Gayle, Rock Up and Sing’s musical director, said: “Welcoming Eliot and his team to the Rock Up Studio a few weeks ago for a five hour, inspirational and amazing recording session during which he singled out the men for a heart-rending solo part, was simply incredible.”
The choir is now preparing for their second massed concert in only three years since its launch in 2009 with a major show at Harrogate International Centre.
Rock Up and Sing! Songs from the Movies will showcase 400 voices from across all five choirs in two performances over the weekend of July 7-8, Saturday at 7.30pm and Sunday at 2.00pm.
Spanning 70 years of film-making, whether you enjoy songs from classic films of the 1950’s or more up to date blockbusters like Avatar and Lion King, there’s certainly something for everyone.
This major show will also premiere Rock Up and Sing For You – a bespoke Wedding and Special Events choir drawn from members of the main choir, and the newest Rock Up Choir – Kidzrock – which, as the name suggests, is a choir for equally enthusiastic 8-12 year olds.
Monies from the show will go to support Martin House Children’s Hospice which provides care and support, free of charge, to children and young people with life-limiting conditions, and their families.
Tickets are available from www.harrogatetheatre.co.uk or by phoning 01423 502116.
