Nearly 1,700 people turned up at Harrogate’s Royal Hall over the weekend to see and hear 300 members of Rock Up and Sing! perform. The Harrogate Advertiser’s GRAHAM CHALMERS was among the crowd.

Performing three shows for Open Arms Malawi, the combined choirs of Harrogate and Skipton-based Rock Up and Sing! showed just how far they have come since they began less than five years ago.

Hugely impressive, the concerts proved the power of all the hard work of their charismatic founder and musical director Rhiannon Gayle - not to forget her new addition, conductor Andrew Matthews.

Gayle herself was delighted with the success of the three Rock Up shows which, for once, focused solely on rock songs by the likes of Queen with an expert live band.

She said: “The whole weekend was a fantastic, exciting and emotional experience for both singers and packed audiences alike. I am so very proud of each and every one of my singers an d all their work.”
