THE X Factor came to Harrogate with the arrival of the hit show’s artistic producer Eliot Kennedy and his team at the Rock Up and Sing! Studio on Claro Road in Harrogate.
A total of 150 singers from all five loacal Rock Up choirs, including Rock Up and Sing! Skipton, came to record their contribution to the single On Ilkla Moor Baht’ At.
The project is sponsored by Welcome to Yorkshire and organised by Harrogate’s Cause UK to resurrect the Yorkshire Anthem, with an inspired ‘Eliot Kennedy twist’, after it was discovered that many youngsters had never heard of the famous folk song.
Songwriter for artists such as Gary Barlow, Bryan Adams and the Spice Girls, Eliot rocked up and brought his own unique brand of talent and fun to Harrogate, giving excited singers the experience of a lifetime as they recorded as the backing choir for a famous Yorkshire Soprano.
He peppered the recording session with tales of his expeditions with Gary Barlow around the Commonwealth recording music for the Queen’s Jubilee record, before sharing his X-Factor techniques with the choir.
Of his time with Rock Up and Sing! Eliot Kennedy tweeted: “I had a fabulous day with some wonderful people singing #yorkshireanthem this record gets better everyday.”
Members of Harrogate-based Rock Up and Sing! will be donning their ‘hats’ for a filming session on the Moor tomorrow, Saturday.
The single is due to be released later this year.
The filming will feature members of the Yorkshire Regiment, Gary Verity, and Ilkley’s town crier.
Cause UK and Welcome to Yorkshire plan to release the track as a charity song, all proceeds of which will go to the Yorkshire Regiment and Yorkshire Air Ambulance. The filming is subject to the weather conditions.
Rock UP and Sing!, a rapidly growing and popular family of choirs are now rehearsing for their next major show in July at the Harrogate International Centre from July 7-8 in support of Martin House Hospice (reg charity 517919).
Rock Up and Sing! Songs from the Movies will showcase 300 voices singing a varied repertoire of music from the movies to suit all tastes and will no doubt be a musical extravaganza of the ilk that Rock Up and Sing! are becoming well known for.
Musical director, Rhiannon Gayle, said: “We’re really buzzing after Eliot’s visit on Saturday - everyone is very excited about our involvement in such a brilliant project, and in performing at the HIC.”
Tickets for the July HIC show are available from the Harrogate Theatre Box Office on 01423 502116 or online at www.harrogatetheatre.co.uk and cost £16, £13 and £10.
