Artist Sir Peter Blake is a funny bloke. I chatted to the man who created the album sleeve for The Beatles’ Sgt Pepper and Paul Weller’s Stanley Road on his visit to RedHouse Originals gallery last year, which was a great thrill, and found him both fascinating and diffident, as if he was a rock n roller, rather than an artist, writes Graham Chalmers
Visiting Harrogate to unveil a new portrait of late Rolling Stones keyboardist Ian Stewart at this cool, rock n roll gallery, he still seemed torn on whether he had enoyed his whole Sgt Pepper experience, perhaps because of his behind the scenes struggle years later for full financial reward for what remains a supremely iconic image. Still a fantastic artist at the age of 80, The Godfather of Pop Art is the subject of a new, major retrospective at RedHouse on Cheltenham Mount from next Friday, September 21.
It’s great to see Ripon promoter David Moss-Blundell back in action with a live show at new music venue Mad Hatters, (formerly Perk Up restaurant). First up this Saturday is the highly entertaining and musically gifted indie act Mickey P Kerr who comes to Ripon trailed by appearances on BBC Radio One and Two and at a host of major festivals.
