THE “Best of British” will be on display on Saturday, April 21 as Ripon’s St Cecilia Orchestra celebrates HM The Queen’s birthday in her Diamond Jubilee year by performing an uplifting and patriotic programme of classical music by British composers.
The concert will feature Elgar’s incomparable and infamous Cello Concerto (with star soloist Jamie Walton), as well as Bax’s rarely performed tone poem Tintagel, Vaughan Williams’ magical Fantasia on a Theme by Thomas Tallis and music by Malcolm Arnold’s English Dances and Orb and Sceptre March by William Walton.
St Cecilia Orchestra will be conducted by Xenophon Kelsey MBE and features in its ranks much of the wealth of musical talent that Ripon and North Yorkshire has to offer.
The concert will take place in the spectacular setting of Ripon Cathedral at 7:30pm and tickets are available at Abode, Alan Matthews, Pomp & Circumstance (Harrogate) and Harrogate and Ripon Tourist Information Centres.
