A group of community choirs which performed at the official Tour de France gala dinner is inviting potential new members to come to its rehearsals this September.
Rock Up and Sing! is a group of four choirs in Harrogate and one in Skipton with members of all ages, from teenagers in the Youth Choir to the young-at-heart in the adult choirs.
The Rock Up and Sing! choirs are true community choirs: there are no auditions, so anyone who wants to sing as part of a group is welcome to join.
Musical director Rhiannon Gayle said: “Singing in a choir is a very rewarding experience and a lot of fun for all our members. Our repertoire includes Fleetwood Mac, Coldplay, Abba and Queen, so there’s something for everyone.
“Many of our existing members have found joining a choir is a great way to de-stress, or to get away from difficult times at home and just focus on the pure joy of singing. We’re looking forward to meeting more people who are interested in experiencing that with us.”
Founded in 2009, Rock Up and Sing! has gone from strength to strength and, in July, was invited to perform at the official gala dinner of the Tour de France for VIPs and dignitaries at the Royal Hall in Harrogate. As well as performing the French national anthem, the choir’s rendition of Proud by Heather Small was felt to sum up the feeling of the event perfectly.
Upcoming concerts include Ripon Cathedral, Kings Hall in Ilkley, the Corn Exchange in Leeds and the Cairn Hotel in Harrogate. The choirs will also be taking part in Light Up a Life services in the run-up to Christmas, and there are plans for recording sessions at Abbey Road Studios next spring.
Rehearsals for the new term begin again from Monday, September 8 and take place on week nights from 7.30-9.30pm, either in Harrogate or Skipton. Full details of the choirs and the rehearsal days and times are available at www.rockupandsing.com
Potential new members can try any of the rehearsals during the first week of term for £3.50 and, if they decide to sign up, can do so straight away. To book a place, email firstname.lastname@example.org or call 01423 508500. Places will not be available for new members after the first week of rehearsals.
