Knaresborough Library will be hosting a special launch for walking guide, The History and Hikes of the Ancient Royal Hunting Forest, a month after the death of author Mike Brough.

Local amateur historian Mike Brough spent eight years researching his book after he retired from a career as a hairdresser in 2004.

Mr Brough was diagnosed with bowel cancer in January 2012 and died in April 2013.

His widow Dorothy Brough said: “He would just love to have been there and talk about the book.”

Mrs Brough said: “I am so happy he realised it and wrote the book. It was wonderful he managed to get a copy of it and had it in his hand before he died.”

In August 2012 Mr Brough gave a talk at the library, which service development manager Wendy Kent said was very interesting.

Chairman of Knaresborough Historical Society Dave Hunt will be give a presentation at the launch.

Tickets for the event on May 30 which starts at 7pm are on sale at a cost of £2 from Knaresborough Library , Market Place telephone 0845 3005112.
