Book review: A Tiny Bit Marvellous by Dawn French

IN September, we’ll be reviewing Dawn French’s debut novel, A Tiny Bit Marvellous.

It’s about a dysfunctional family facing a turbulent time: mum is having a crisis as her 50th birthday approaches, two teenage children are struggling to relate to anyone else, and dad is a quiet figure in the background - or is he?

In the last week of September, we’ll be featuring your views on the book and looking at some of the themes you pick up on. Among the topics we could cover are the use of more than one narrative voice, whether your views of the characters change as the story unfolds, and whether “celebrities” should write novels or stick to their day jobs.

You can pick up a copy of the book in most book shops, including Waterstones in Harrogate and The Little Ripon Bookshop, where the lovely owners are getting a few extra copies in to make sure nobody misses out.

l Send in your reviews of no more than 150 words by Friday, September 23 to ackrill.news@ypn.co.uk or write to the Weekend Book Club, Ackrill Media Group, 1 Cardale Park, Harrogate, HG3 1RZ. Don’t forget to include your name, where you live and your contact details.
