A triumph for Dance directions

Dance Directions, Harrogate Theatre.

It was all smiles for the audiences at Harrogate Theatre who saw two recent performances of Born To Dance, a showcase for the talents of local dance school Dance Directions.

This show featured close to forty performers aged from four to 18, in a varied programme of dances covering ballet, tap, street, jazz and contemporary, all directed and choreographed by principal Charlotte Moss.

In a pacy and colourful show we heard, among other things, music from the likes of Michael Jackson, Muse, Christina Aguilera and Beyonce, plus a lovely arrangement of Debussy’s ‘Clair de Lune’ (a stunning ballet ensemble piece) and Eva Cassidy’s haunting version of Over the Rainbow. Every piece was performed with poise and professionalism by this young cast, who were clearly well drilled and enjoyed every moment.

The choreography was by turns innovative, touching, clever and lively, designed to excite, inspire or tug at the heart-strings. The costumes were stylish and impressive.

This exhilarating show was a triumph, from the first note to the last, a credit to the skills and creative vision of this group.
