Experienced defender Paul Heckingbottom has become the latest recruit to join Harrogate Town when he agreed terms on Wednesday evening.

Paul, 34, started as a youth player at Manchester United in 1993 before joining Sunderland in 1996. Whilst at the “Black Cats” he enjoyed successful loan spells at Scarborough, Hartlepool United and Darlington.

Released from Sunderland in 1999 he joined Darlington permanently before moves took him to Norwich City, Bradford City, Sheffield Wednesday, Barnsley, Mansfield Town and finally Gateshead in 2010.

Having helped Gateshead to retain their place in the Blue Square Bet Premier last season, Paul was released at the beginning of May this year.

Also agreeing terms for the new campaign are fan’s favourites Matthew Bloomer and Richard Pell.
