Runners turned out in chilly conditions to take part St Wilfrid’s School 2012 Muddy Boots 10k and Golden Mile fun run this month.
The February snowfall the night before the race failed to dampen the race’s atmosphere and runners took to the wintery fields and tracks with great enthusiasm.
After a short briefing the athletes were soon heading across the school fields to meet Kirkby Road, then out to Clotherholme Farm to experience the snow first hand, then the long mile drag back to St Wilfrid’s school fields where Batchelors of Ripon provided an impressive finish line of vehicles to greet runners and supporters.
The overall winner was Matthew John from Otley AC, who made it home in 36 minutes, followed in closely by Jack Simpson in 36.44.
Male and female team prizes were both won by Ripon Runners who, once again, turned out in great numbers.
Children aged between three and five-years-old took part in the Fun Run.
The youngsters ran round the snowy school field in bright sunshine.
Ben Pease took first place, followed in second place by Reece Dalton and Euan Ellis in third.
Prize giving took place in the school hall and tired athletes and supporters were greeted with bacon sandwiches, home baking and a well earned cup of tea, all provided by the organisers’ team of volunteers.
The race was organised and run by Ripon Runners, with support from business sponsors in and around Ripon.
