Ripon Runners Athletics Club have cemented a new partnership with the city’s rugby club which will see more than 100 athletes move their training base to Mallorie Park.

The Runners will start training from the rugby club’s ground in September after growing too big for their current base at Ripon Cricket Club, off Studley Road.

The athletics club were formed 28 years ago and within a year of forming, the club’s athletes started training at the city’s cricket club.

At the club’s inception, there were around 40 athletes in the club.

The membership of the Runners in 2014 now exceeds 140.

Runners chairman Chris Bennett said: “We have unfortunately out-grown the cricket club pavilion so have sought out a new partner sharing similar views about the future development of community sport in our city.

“Ripon Rugby Club seemed ideally suited to provide us with this sporting partnership.

“It is the beginning of an exciting new era in the history of Ripon Runners.”

Rugby club chairman Adam Briggs said: “We are delighted to welcome Ripon Runners.

“We look forward to developing a sporting partnership with them.

“This new relationship fits ideally with our vision of a thriving community hub in the city of Ripon.”
