Harrogate’s 10-year-old dressage rider Amelia Moncrieff became the new U25 BRYDs National Prelim Champion at Sheepgate last week.
The U25 BYRD Championships Sheepgate Equestrian Nr Boston attracted over 900 entries and included riders from all over the UK.
In the Ballie Haylage Preliminary Championship final Amelia rode her own British bred five-year-old pony DST Don’t Panic (aka Ollie), to first place with a score of 71.97%in a ield of 30, after finishing the semi-final in third place.
She also won the trophy as the highest placed rider aged 11 and under .
Her team Northern Jacob in the separate team championship finished third overall.
“I couldn’t have asked for more from such a young pony, . We had a few cheeky moments in the warm up tests, but in the final he rose to the occasion “ said Amelia.
She trains with mumKaren and Sonia Webster-Baines.
Before the U25 Championships, Amelia rode DST Don’t Panic at the PetPlan Area Festival at Port Royal ECC, where she won the Novice Restricted class with 70.6% qualifying her for the Winter Championships in Hartpury next year.
Amelia was awarded a wildcard to the National Dressage Championships at Stoneleigh to ride in the Prelim class against the best riders in the UK.
By competing in qualifiers from December 2012 to June 2013 riders can qualify for one of seven summer regional finals, then if placed, the National Dressage Championships at Stoneleigh Park.Amelia rode at Frys near Beverley finishing fourth overall with a score of 70.15%.
