VIDEO - Harrogate Railway manager praises troops after league win

Waiting for Video...

On-loan Harrogate Town player Liam Hardy scored a hat-trick as Harrogate Railway beat Evo-Stik League First Division North high-flyers 4-2 at Station View.

Harrogate Railway manager Billy Miller spoke to the Harrogate Advertiser after the win.

Captain Jon Maloney also got on the scoresheet as an impressive Railway moved a place up to 16th in the league table.

Hardy opened the scoring on 14 minutes, and Maloney sent his side 2-0 up four minutes before the interval.

Home ‘keeper Sam Dobbs had to be on form to deal with the determined Lancashire visitors, who sit third in the league.

The visitors started the second half brightly, and pulled a goal back through Danny Mahoney on the hour mark.

Clitheroe surged forward searching for an equaliser, and had the ball in the net after 75 minutes, but it was ruled offside.

Sustained pressure in Railway’s half finally resulted in Clitheroe’s equaliser, scored by Chris Mason in the 77th minute.

Railway rallied, and another Town loanee Rob Youhill ended a spectacular right-wing run with a well weighted pass which gave Hardy plenty of time to smash home past the visiting ‘keeper.

Cock-a-hoop Railway were in no mood to allow Clitheroe back into the match, and, into four minutes of injury time, Hardy coolly slotted home into an empty goal, as Railway tore the Clitheroe defence apart.

Miller’s troops travel to fifth-placed New Mills next Saturday.

Railway will look to avenge their opening day home defeat to the Derbyshire side.

Meantime, Railway’s match against Garforth Town scheduled for Tuesday night has been postponed.
