Town vow to get tough at Alfreton
BOSS Simon Weaver is hoping his beefed-up Harrogate Town act like the school yard bully tomorrow when his squad embark on the revenge trail to Alfreton (3pm ko).
Town were thumped 4-0 at the CNG Stadium earlier in the season against Nicky Law’s men who muscled their way to a simple win.
However with a bunch of big bruisers now prowling the pitch for Town and some heavyweights packing a punch in all areas Weaver is confident they will put up more of a fight this time around.
“We learned a lot during that game,” said Weaver.
“They just bullied us then. Speaking to their manager after the game they went direct and had way too much power for us. But we’ve changed it around since then.
“We’ve brought in a lot of new players, strong players and we’re not going to get bullied anymore. We’re going to bully them.”
Alfreton have had a mixed start to 2010 drawing 1-1 against strugglers Solihull Moors and Vauxhall Motors in January.
They come into the game on the back of Saturday’s 2-1 victory at Gloucester City.
Tomorrow meanwhile kicks off a long sequence of games for Town to get their teeth into.
Weaver’s side still have 19 fixtures to fit into three months after Saturday’s proposed trip to Hyde was frozen off.
The fixture has now been rearranged for Easter Monday.
Town are on the road again on Tuesday when they travel to assistant coach Tom Wade’s former club Blyth Spartans (7.45pm ko).
They finish the year’s shortest month with their first home game since January’s victory over Hinckley against Gainsborough next Saturday before a trip to Vauxhall Motors three days later.
AFC Telford make the trip to the CNG on the 20th and then comes back-to-back clashes against Gloucester City home (23rd) and away (27th).
“I’m excited,” Weaver said about the prospect of playing twice a week until mid March.
“The players want to be playing, it’s not a problem. We’ve got a big squad here now and we can cope with it, I’ve got no doubt.
“We might need to get a wheelie bin full of ice in each week for the players. But they’re looking forward to it.
“There’s still a lot to play for but with the players we’ve got here now I’m more than confident we can get out of it. If we had these lads all season I think we’d be in the top six not down near the bottom.
“We’ve got some crucial games coming up. Gainsborough and then Vauxhall will be a big week for us and we’ve got to prepare for that.
“Blyth will be a tough place to go mid week.
“I’ll be tapping into Tom’s knowledge of the club, he’s got the inside track on one or two of their players and hopefully we can use that to our advantage.
“They also have the league’s in form striker in Paul Brayson up there.
“He’s been banging in goals for fun this season and of course he’s someone we have to watch.”
Weaver should have a strength squad at his disposal tomorrow with Jon Maloney back in contention after recovering from a hamstring injury.
