Town focus switches to league match
Harrogate Town manager Simon Weaver urges his side on in the 1-1 FA Cup draw with Hastings Utd
Harrogate Town boss Simon Weaver insists there will be no FA Cup hangover when his side travel to Colwyn Bay for a Blue Square North match on Saturday (kick-off 3pm).
Town must replay their second round cup tie away next Thursday after drawing 1-1 with Hastings United on Saturday.
The prize is a trip to Championship side Middlesbrough’s Riverside Stadium in the third round
The match will be televised, and a win would yield a £60,000 fee for Town.
But the boss is focused on this week’s league clash, and is urging his players to do the same.
He said: “Being on TV lifts the profile of the club, and gives the lads the chance to play under the cameras. It is a very exciting game to look forward to, I have told the lads to look forward to travelling together,
“However, the players know on no uncertain terms the league is very important, and we need to keep building momentum.”
The trip to North Wales is vital for Weaver, who wants his side to open up a gap between Town and struggling sides in the league.
He said: “The trip to Colwyn Bay is never easy.
“We have a strong squad, though, and I know the manager there Jon Newby quite well.
“They play a 4-4-2, with sharp lads up front and in midfield. He knows a fair bit about me too, he will know I like my teams to work hard and have a go right from the first minute.”
Town were scheduled to play Halifax Town away from home in the league on Wednesday, but the match was postponed
Adam Bolder and Alan White will serve their one-match suspensions either during that game, or on Saturday if the Halifax tie is called off.
Town’s WRCC match against Guiseley on Tuesday night was postponed, after the Wetherby Road pitch failed to recover from Saturday.
Weaver said: “The pitch took a real battering.
“It is going to be that way this season, there is no miracle cure.
“We will stick to our guns and play the best football we possibly can.”
The £60,000 TV windfall is split between a guaranteed £34,100 live television fee, and while the winner will take home a further £27,000 from the FA’s prize fund.
The manager said: “The board will be delighted with that, and we just have to see it through now. Boro would be an immense game if we can get there.”
Town have no fresh injury concerns.
