Harrogate Railway boss Billy Miller is urging his players to avoid a repeat of his Boxing Day nightmare when they host basement club Garforth on Saturday (kick-off 3pm).

Railway were stunned 1-0 at second bottom Goole on Boxing Day.

However, they drew 2-2 with Farsley FC at home on New Year’s Day after goals by Rob Youhill and Nathan Cartman.

And the manager has warned struggling Garforth will be out to shock their hosts.

Miller said: “I am expecting a very similar match to the one at Goole.

“We play them again in February, and they could be a completely different team by then.

“You look at the bottom seven clubs and Goole are the only ones to beat us, our wins have come mainly against the higher-placed teams.”

Chances were rare during the Boxing Day match, and Miller was disappointed to see his side falter.

On the match, he said: “It was dull, but credit to Goole, they got the game plan right.

“They closed us down and they stopped us playing.

“We have to try and take positives out of the match.

“Danny Hull, Dan Thirkell and Damian Hopkins played very well.

“The players know when it hasn’t been their day, but I don’t want this result to take away from the good work we have been doing recently.”

Town’s match at Ossett Town on Saturday was postponed as the Ingfield ground was waterlogged.

Meantime, the manager is hopeful former Leeds United starlet Joe McCann could play a part at Station View in the near future.

The midfielder, 20, comes from Harrogate and is hoping to break into the squad in the coming weeks.

McCann has previously spent time on loan at Guiseley AFC.

The manager said: “Joe should take part in the next few weeks.

“He is a local lad, I was talking to Harrogate Town manager Simon Weaver, and we were both interested to see what he could do at Railway.

Rail are seeking international clearance in a bid to sign local bartender Jesus, who joined Josh Windass in watching at Goole.

The manager revealed it is possible Windass could feature before the end of the season.

Simon Parks is expected to return to the squad this weekend.

However, Colin Hunter and Paddy Maguire remain out.

The manager said: “If we risk Paddy and something goes wrong, we could lose him for the season.”

Rob Youhill’s loan spell at Railway ends this week, and he will return to Harrogate Town.

Meantime, Liam Gray has joined Knaresborough Town.
