Parry closes in on 2013 Tour card at Q School

Former Harrogate Golf Club junior John Parry is storming his way towards regaining 2013 his European Tour card this week, at Q School at the PGA Catalunya resort in Girona, Spain.

While the rest of the elite including Rory McIlroy wrap up the tour at the DP World Tour Championship in Dubai, Parry and 155 others will be playing six tension-filled rounds for the chance to claim one of 25 cards for the 2013 European Tour.

The top 70 progress to the final two rounds, the last of which concludes today in Spain. As the Advertiser was going to press, things were looking extremely good.

The 26-year-old from Knaresborough had made it through the first two rounds in style.

An excellent round of 64 saw him at -6, and tied for 14th place, before things got even better as Parry moved up to joint second behind joint leaders Estanislao Goya and Andy Sullivan.

But then on Wednesday, Parry carded the joint best round, a six-under par 66 to move into the lead in Catalunya.

Emerging for the sixth and final round on Thursday he tweeted: Time to head to the course. 18 holes to finish this marathon.”

Earmarked for success at a very early age, Parry won several high profile amateur tournaments including the Danish and Spanish Amateur Championships, and represented Great Britain and Ireland in the Walker Cup before turning professional in 2007.

Parry won the 2009 Allianz Golf Open Grand Toulouse on the Challenge Tour. He ended that season in 14th place on the Challenge Tour Rankings to earn his card on the top level European Tour for 2010. During his rookie season he won the inaugural Vivendi Cup to secure a one year exemption on the tour.
