Harewood Hillclimb to stage Montague Burton Trophy meet

THE next event at Harewood Hillclimb is Sunday's Montague Burton Trophy Meeting.

Karl Jackson, from Leeds, will be racing his 2400cc Mitsubishi Evo IX RS in an attempt to hold onto the top spot in the Harrogate Audi sponsored, Harewood Speed Hillclimb Championship.

The Montague Burton Trophy event is Round 5 of the Harrogate Audi Harewood Hillclimb Championship, including rounds of the following championships: Toyo Tires Midland Speed Championship, Yorkshire Speed Championship, Lotus 7 Club Speed Championship. Plus classes for solo and three-wheeled motorbikes

This event is unique in the Harewood calendar, in that motorbikes compete in the event as part of the National Motor Cycle Hillclimb Championship.

These range from 250cc motorbikes up to 1200cc three wheelers with a passenger hanging on to give balance at high speed.

In a strong motor cycle entry, Paul Jarrett (Shrewsbury), British Motor Cycle Hillclimb Champion competes on his 550 Aprilia.

A former champion, Glyn Poole on his 491cc Honda CR will also be there.

In the Toyo Tires Midland Speed Championship, competing cars are predominantly mildly modified road cars, through to more seriously modified sports cars.

Throughout the year the Auto 66 Club, based in Scarborough, organise the Yorkshire Speed Hill Climb & Sprint Championships for cars and motorbikes and make their only visit to Harewood this weekend.

There will also be a good entry from the Lotus 7 Club Speed Championship, which is for Lotus and Caterham cars. These lightweight cars are always fun to watch in their close competition.

Admission for adults is 10 while children under 14 are free.
