Furious Weaver attacks Town flops
HARROGATE Town assistant Tom Wade has backed gaffer Simon Weaver to shine if he recalls himself to the starting line-up tomorrow in the aftermath of their shocking home display against Stalybridge on Saturday.
The Wetherby Roaders have an immediatADVERTISEMENT e chance to avenge last week's 4-0 home defeat when they travel to Bower Field (3pm ko) and Wade knows they simply have to shape up or run the risk of another heavy loss.
Town looked very much relegation fodder against a lean, mean Bridge outfit, (for a full report see page 41).
It lead Weaver to launch an astonishing attack on his players after the game branding their performance "void of any character."
Weaver then revealed he'll look into his own fitness to assess whether to assert himself into the back four tomorrow. His last appearance came in their 4-0 home drubbing by Alfreton back in October.
"The manager is passionate and he'll give it 100 per cent," said Wade about Weaver's possible recall.
"I'm quite certain some of the players can learn from him. We'll have to see how he feels but it's an option. All we know is we need to play a lot better than we did on Saturday."
Wade added that the Town boss is frantically searching for a couple of players to bring in tomorrow and freshen up the side but he refused to reveal what positions they're looking to strengthen.
The number two is hoping Martin Foster and local boy Adam Nowakowski are available for the fixture. Both of them missed Saturday's game, the latter due to a bad dose of the flu.
"We'll only bring in players who we think will do us a job and make us stronger," added Wade.
"We were missing one or two on Saturday like Martin (Foster) and Adam and hopefully they'll make the difference."
Meanwhile Wade pulled no punches in assessing his side's poor display at home to Stalybridge last Saturday. But he feels the players have an immediate chance to set the record straight tomorrow when they make the trip to Bower Field.
"We just weren't good enough, the gaffer and I hold our hands up," he said.
"It was a bad performance all round. They gave us a footballing lesson and we got our backsides spanked. But we can't dwell on it, we've got them this Saturday and we have to respond.
"It's probably the best time to play them straight after last week. It seems daft to say but we're a good side, we just had an off day. Hopefully we've got over our little blip now."
Meanwhile Wade has paid tribute to the work Farsley boss Steve Parsley has but in this season to eat down a ten-point deduction at the start of the campaign and push his side into mid-table.
His efforts look to be in vain with the Throstle Nest teetering on the verge of liquidation after failing to fulfil their last three fixtures including Tuesday's proposed trip to the CNG Stadium.
"It's a crying shame for the club," he added.
"It's a shame for their supporters, their manager and all their backroom staff after all the effort they've put in."
