Football: Town and Rail square up for derby showdown

HARROGATE Town go head to head with Harrogate Railway in the John Smiths Trophy on Tuesday night(7.45pm).

Town are eager to win back the trophy after Railway lifted it last year following a penalty shoot out.

New Rail' boss Nigel Danby will be eager for his side to claim local bragging rights, having seen his troops taken on Scarborough on Saturday.

Meantime Simon Weaver's Blue Square North side enjoyed another pre-season success on Saturday, comfortably beating Sutton Town 2-0 away.

Dominic Roma opened the scoring, before Steve Bowey added the second with his penalty kick.

Weaver made his ninth signing of the season before the game, capturing left back Paul Talbot.

Thirty-year-old Talbot began his career at Newcastle United and has previously played for York City, Gateshead, Burton Albion, Queen of the South, Spennymoor United, Newcastle Blue Star and Bedlington Terriers.

Striker Liam Hardy has signed a contract with Town. The former Armthorpe Welfare man joined on non-contract terms earlier in pre-season.
