Harrogate Town went down to a 3-0 defeat in a controversial match away at Altrincham in the Blue Square North on Saturday.

After going a goal down when Simon Richman scored for the Robins, Town lost goalkeeper Craig MacGillivray after a clash with striker Damian Reeves.

With no reserve keeper on the bench, Simon Weaver opted to replace Lee Elam with Matt Bloomer and slot midfielder Adam Nowakowski into goal.

Incredibly, Nowakowski then saved the resulting pen by Matt Doughty, but three minutes after the restart was unable to keep out Carl Rodgers’ header.

Town pushed hard through subs Robbie Youhill and Danny Forrest and Shane Killock and Jonny Allan also had chances.

But Altrincham slammed in a third to compound a tough afternoon for the Wetherby Road men.

Town were shown a glimmer of light when Youhill was brought down by Gianluca Havern, but Forrest booted the spot kick straight at Altrincham’s ‘keeper.

Town visit Boston United on Tuesday looking to pick up three points.

Meantime, Harrogate Railway were beaten 3-2 at home to Garforth Town in the EvoStik First Division North.

Jonathan Maloney and Danny Hull scored for Railway in either half.

Tadcaster Albion’s hosting of Bridlington was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch in the NCEL Premier, while Knaresborough Town enjoyed a 3-1 win away at Eccleshill in NCEL Division One.

Steve Bromley, Colin Heath and Joel Freeston were all on target.
