Tadcaster Albion face two vital NCEL Premier Division matches this week, at home to Staveley Miners Welfare on Saturday (3pm) and at Nostell Miners Welfare on Tuesday (7.45pm).

Manager Paul Marshall is urging his troops to fight for six points, as they seek to remain in the top eight of the division.

Tad drew 3-3 at Armthorpe Welfare on Saturday.

This was followed by a 0-0 home draw against Parkgate.

Ahead of the double-header, Marshall said: “Staveley are one of our main rivals in the league, they are usually in the top eight, and we have had some great games there in the past.

“We drew 2-2 there earlier this season, and will need to dig deep to get the win this time round.”

Earlier this month, Chris Youldon joined Tad from the Derbyshire side.

Meantime, Nostell Miners Welfare player David Watts was Marshall’s captain at Goole FC, and Nostell boss Alan Colquhoun allowed the influential Ryan Williams to join Tad last September.

Ahead of the game, Marshall said: “Nostell don’t always win a lot of games, but the matches against them are always hard-fought.

“I am expecting a similar match on Tuesday.

“Dave is one of their best players, I know him very well from when he was my captain.”

Joel Dickson picked up an injury in Tad’s home win over Glasshoughton Welfare last week, and the club will keep an eye on his fitness ahead of the weekend.

Midfielder Charlie Binns has gone on trial with League Two Dagenham and Redbridge.

On Saturday, Tad went ahead in the third minute through Callum Ward.

However, Armthorpe took a 2-1 half-time lead through Leo Fortune-West and Stuart Gibbard.

Josh Barrett equalised for Tad after the interval, with Steven Jeff putting the visitors ahead again after 62 minutes.

However, battling Armthorpe equalised through Craig Morley with 23 minutes left, to ensure a share of the points.

Marshall admits the side missed Ryan Qualter this weekend.

He said: “When you score three away from home, you expect to get the win.

“We conceded through three set-pieces, which hasn’t been a problem this season.

“We missed Ryan, Armthorpe caused us trouble and Matt Sparkes will need a few games to get used to it.”

Earlier this week, Albion signed Scott McCrory from Staveley.
