England call for Ripon pair

The Ripon pair picked for England.

Ripon Rugby Club starlets Charles Capps and James McDaniel have been called into the full England Under-16 squad.

The remarkable feat is a first for the Mallorie Park club, and follows the pair’s performances for Yorkshire in the Northern Counties Festival last year.

Prop Capps and scrum-half McDaniel, who attend Queen Ethelburga’s and Ripon Grammar, will join the 72-strong national squad ahead of matches against Scotland, Italy and Wales in April and May.

The club’s Iain Shaw said: “All at Ripon are very proud of these fine achievements. These first England junior calls are the icing on the cake for what has been quite a remarkable junior representative season to date.”

Earlier this season, Dom Butler was selected for the North of England U-18s and Harry Richardson for the U-16s. Ripon U-16s, who have yet to concede a point in the Yorkshire Cup, beat Sheffield Tigers 46-0 on Sunday.

They now host Huddersfield in the semi-final on Sunday March 24.
