Delighted 'Railway toast best performance
THEY'RE out of the relegation zone and now boss Phil Sharpe is hoping his Harrogate Railway outfit continue to surge up the division after a successful week on the pitch this week.
On Saturday Rail’ pulled off the result of the day in UniBond First Division North beating league leaders Lancaster City 3-1 just seven days’ after their 3-0 defeat at City’s Giant Axe ground.
It followed Thursday night’s 2-1 victory over Garforth Town at Station View, Dan Thirkell grabbing a brace either side of half-time.
Sharpe is now looking forward to the visit of Trafford tomorrow (3pm) just three days’ before the trip to second bottom Ossett Albion on Tuesday night (7.45pm ko).
They’ll be looking to build on Tuesday night’s 1-1 draw at Salford City. Steve Palfrey (14) scoring for Rail’, Ryan Giggs’ brother Rhodri (36) rescuing a point before half-time.
“Trafford are a bit of a Jekyll and Hyde side,” said Sharpe.
“They beat Rossendale 8-1 in their last game but lost the two before that. Just because we’ve won a couple of games I’m not going to get carried away. We won’t underestimate them.
“We’ve got Ossett on Tuesday and that’s going to be a big game. We won’t be going there looking for a draw, we’ll be looking to win it. The next two games we can certainly get something out of them.”
Sharpe is hoping Liam Gray and James Nettleton will return to the starting line-up tomorrow after recovering from injury.
On Saturday Paul Stansfield gave Rail’ the lead after ten minutes however Michael Rushton (31) hit back to keep the scores level going into the break.
After a rallying half-time team talk Rail’ emerged confident and went after the next goal.
They were rewarded when Aaron Hollingdrake scored on 52 minutes. The points were then sealed in the 90th minute when Phil Mitchell found the back of the net.
“It was probably our best performance of the season,” added a delighted Sharpe.
“It probably helped us playing them just last week. There were a lot of great performances, Dan Verity and Chris Jenkinson were superb at the back, Paul Stansfield was fantastic, everyone had a good game.
“Hopefully we can keep that going. It was a psychological lift to get out of the relegation zone.”
