Defeat for City and ‘Bridge
hsb Boroughbridge v Ripon City. Boroughbridge Number 8. Ripon number 8. (111231M1c)
RIPON City lost their first game of 2012 on Saturday, going down 3-2 at home to Oxenhope.
It was disappointment for Charlie Brown and his charges in their attempts to finish in the West Yorkshire Premier League top four this season.
Meanwhile, rivals BOROUGHBRIDGE returned empty handed from Pool after a 2-1 loss.
The solitary ‘Bridge goal came courtesy of a long-range pass which was picked up by the wind to bounce over the home ‘keeper’s head whilst Martin Hutchinson picked up the man-of-the-match honours in the loss.
BOROUGHBRIDGE RESERVES fared little better against bottom of the table Whitkirk Wanderers Reserves at Aldborough Road, going down 6-3.
Whitkirk opened the scoring early in the match but a headed goal from Phil Wix and a pin-point accurate free-kick from Paul Scaife gave Tony Coles’s men a half time lead. The visitors struck soon after the break to level matters but again ‘Bridge took the lead after Alex Coombes fired the ball home.
However, it was then all one way traffic with Whitkirk first restoring parity before adding a fourth, fifth and sixth and leaving the hosts thoroughly humiliated and sitting just two places and two points off the bottom.
