Cricket: 'Foot and 'Boro' U-17s primed for Barrett final

FOLLIFOOT and Knaresborough U-17s will battle it out for the Arthur Barrett Cup on Thursday, with both sides primed to land the first piece of silverware of the season.

For Follifoot, it will be an opportunity to end their agonising wait for a junior trophy in over a decade.

The side, which includes Joe Lumb players Alex Fox and James Ford, are yet to be defeated in 2010, and Foot coach Euan London is full of praise for his side.

"The season has gone extremely well so far, and we are unbeaten," he said.

"We do have one or two missing; we are still waiting to hear if James Ford is available as he's away with Yorkshire U19. If he plays, on paper we will have a massive advantage going into the game. We can bat down to number eight, but the likes of Scott Thomson and Alex Fox are in fantastic form at the top of the order."

London is also wary of 'Boro, and has highlighted the three key dangers to the Follifoot side.

"Peter Barnes is the main danger if he gets started, and Jordan Webster can be very destructive," he said

"They obviously have the highly rated Jonny Tattersall as well; he's a technically sound player but we'll have to see how he adapts to the 22 over game."

Boro coach Richard Perham is also missing some of his players, but is looking forward to the final. "We do have two or three missing, a position that both clubs are unfortunately in, but I think we still have a good chance. We have a good realationship with Follifoot and I am looking forawrd to a good game of cricket."

Although not as strong in the league, Perham sees the cup as the main focus for the year.

He said: "We haven't done so well in the league, but we've given everyone a chance to play, which is important.

We've focused more in the cup and fielded our stronger sides. Follifoot will have some missing, but Alex Fox and James Ford are the key dangers in that side.

They also have some very useful players, like the opening bowler Jack Emmett."

The match starts at 6.15pm on Thursday 15 July, at Follifoot CC.
