Busy week awaits Railway

TWO games in two days, that's what's in front of Phil Sharpe and his Harrogate Railway troops as they look to eat away their fixture pile-up.

Rail’ welcomed local rivals Garforth Town last night, a game that was due to be played on Tuesday but was put on the backburner with Simon Clifford’s men battling away in the West Riding Cup.

Sharpe’s side are now looking forward to tomorrow’s visit of league leaders Lancaster City (3pm) just seven days after their 3-0 defeat at Giant Axe, a result that put the Dolly Blues seven points clear of second-placed FC Halifax.

Tuesday sees the Station View men take a trip across the Pennines to play relegation rivals Salford City (7.45pm).

“It’s going to be hard but wanted them to happen,” said Sharpe about their hectic few days.

“We know it’s been tough since Christmas, we’ve played three of the top five sides. All of them have been hard games, yes I was looking to nick a few points out of them but that didn’t happen.

“We’ve still got a lot of games to come. We’ve still got to play a lot of the teams around us like Salford twice. We’re in a relegation fight but I’ve been there before.

“I know what it takes to get out of it.”

On Saturday Rail’ came a cropper on their return trip to Lancaster. The original visit to Giant Axe was abandoned with City 2-0 up at the time.

However there was no problem this time for the home side after they took the lead on three minutes through Michael Rushton.

The same player then grabbed the second on 36 minutes before Mark Jackson sealed the win with three minutes to play in the second half.

Sharpe is waiting on the fitness of Adam Hollingdrake and Kevin Ryan for tomorrow’s clash.
