Boro will fight at top of league

Knaresborough Town boss Brian Davey is preparing his troops for a fight at the summit of NCEL Division One.
Despite being promoted just last season, Boro sit fourth in the table and have scored 11 goals in their last five league outings.
At the turn of the year, Davey sees no reason why they cannot continue to upset the odds at the top end of the division.
Boro beat Eccleshill United 3-1 away from home on Saturday, and host mid-table Rossington Main this Saturday (kick-off 3pm).
They then travel to Dinnington Town on Tuesday (kick-off 7.45pm).
Ahead of the fixtures, Davey said: “We played Rossington in our first away match of the season, and won 3-0.
“After the game we thought, if that’s all we have to worry about, we will be safe enough.
“But we are looking forward to playing very game, and we know Rossington have had some good results.
“It is a home match, and I am very keen to give the supporters a good performance this Saturday after the last home game, which was against Dinnington Town, and we didn’t play very well.”
Tuesday’s Dinnington Town match is a rearranged fixture, and follows Boro’s hard-fought 1-0 home win over the side on New Year’s Eve.
Steve Bromley was the goal hero that day, and Davey hopes the in-form forward can repeat the performance.
The manager said: “It was an awkward match when we played them two weeks ago.
“We ground out the win, and we have to keep working hard to win our games.”
On keeping the pressure on the top sides, the manager said: “I have made it clear I want all the players to be available for every game.
“We can’t win the biggest games without our strongest squad, so everyone needs to make themselves available from now on.
“If we can put out the best team every week, I see no reason why we can’t win our remaining matches.”
He continued: “We will add one or two to strengthen the team further.”
Davey was hoiping to sign a centre-forward tonight (after we went to press).
On Saturday, Boro went behind to a 29th minute goal scored by Marcus Edwards.
Boro piled the pressure on their hosts after the goal, but could not find the net before half-time.
However, Colin Heath hit the post on the restart, and the ball was not cleared.
Liam Gray got hold of the ball and powered a shot towards goal, which deflected off Bromley’s chest to equalise.
Gray then set Matt Donnelly into a good position, and his centre ball was smashed home by Heath to put Boro 2-1 ahead.
In the final minute, Joel Freeston was sent through, beating home defender Mills twice before netting his side’s third.
The manager responded to the match: “We played well this week.
“Our finishing was very strong.
“We were saying you can’t keep dominating teams and not taking chances.
“It was a good performance in the end.”
On Bromley’s goal, the manager said: “When you are scoring, everything goes for you.
“It came off his chest, but Steve is claiming it.
“Then, Joel scored a cracker of a goal.
“It was pleasing to see the forwards scoring.”
The boss was also impressed by the performance of his midfield players.
He said: “ Jimmy Bradley is playing very well at the moment.
“There is experience in our midfield, and that is showing.”
Boro should have a full squad available this week.
Meantime Boro reserves lost 2-1 at home to Yorkshire Amateur Reserves at the weekend.
They travel to play Featherstone Colliery in the West Yorkshire League on Saturday (kick-off 2pm).
