Big-hitting Kirkstall ace joins Beckwithshaw
BECKWITHSHAW have signalled their intent to keep up with the Division One big hitters by capturing the signing of influential all-rounder Stuart Hudson from Kirkstall Education this week.
Hudson will add some batting bulk to ‘Shaw’s already strong line-up and provide more firepower in the bowling department.
Captain Ben Quick is delighted with the mid-season recruit and hopes he can be the catalyst for a 'Shaw revival after a recent blip in form.
"He got in contact with ourselves this week," said Quick.
"He's a proven player at this level, he's won cups and leagues and he's shown that over the last few seasons. I'm sure he'll add some strength to the batting and the bowling.
"Last week our performance just wasn't acceptable. We bowled really well but our batting let us down badly to be bowled out for 95 with 18 overs to go.
"We'll be looking to bounce back and Stuart will hopefully help."
It’s been a hectic week in the Aire Wharfe League with the news Collingham have been slapped with a 26-point deduction for an inadvertent infringement of a league rule concerning a player transfer.
Toby Jacklin’s side were punished after failing to sign transfer forms with Kirkstall Education concerning first team player Rob Sharma who played one game for the Eddies last season.
The upshot means Collingham have slipped from second top in Division One to third bottom and all the teams they have played with Sharma in the side have been awarded six points.
This will be hard to take for ‘Shaw who easily beat Collingham on May 23, whereas other teams such as leaders Green Lane have benefited from the extra points after they only picked up a 4-2 winning draw on May 2.
"It's frustrating having been one of those sides to beat them 6-0," added Quick.
"The result is we've moved down from fourth to seventh but we're not that far off the top."
‘Shaw will be seeking an immediate response at Calverley tomorrow (1.30pm) after they slipped to their second consecutive defeat at home to Adel last Saturday.
James Lilley’s fine (6-62) looked to have put ‘Shaw on the road to victory as they skittled the away side for 145.
However Dave Mather (4-48) and Mark Shires (5-44) produced equally devastating spells in reply as ‘Shaw were shot out at 95, Stu Carey top scoring with 25.
Meanwhile Beckwithshaw will be holding a cricket week from June 27-31 run by Ryan Bradshaw (ECB Level 2 and QTS).
Eddie Churchill (ECB Level 2 and QTS), 10 per day Course focuses on: All aspects of the games including 20/20’s, tactics and nets.

In Division Two KNARESBOROUGH have thrown their hat into the promotion ring after holding on for an exciting draw against Pool last weekend.
Their three points have moved them to within five of rivals FOLLIFOOT who they play in eight days time.
First for Adam Pryor’s men is a tasty trip to league leaders Illingworth who come into the contest fresh from their rain -affected win over Paul Angove’s side last Saturday.
“It’s brought everyone right back into it,” said Pryor about ‘Foot’s defeat on Saturday.
“We’ve got two big games in two weeks now against Illingworth and Follifoot.
“If we can get the majority of points from those two games then we’ll be looking in pretty good shape.
“I don’t really know too much about Illingworth but from the reports they’ve got some really good young players.”
On Saturday two stubborn knocks by youngsters Peter Barnes (41) and Tom Lilley (46), along with Simon Bridson’s 28 not out saw them to a defendable 178-8.
Mike Baxandall removed both Pool openers before a middle order fightback put them in touching distance of victory.
With the away side needing eight off the final over and three from the final ball however, Knaresborough’s Andy Ward held his nerve as the scores finished level on 178, Pool losing seven wickets.
“In the batting Peter Barnes and Tom Lilley did really well to get us to a good total,” added Pryor.
“Then Andy Ward and Simon Bridson brought us back into it with the ball. Andy bowled four or five overs at the end and did really well to hold his nerve.”
BILTON will look to get over the heartache of slipping to a one-wicket defeat against bottom side Bardsey last weekend when they welcome Tong Park/Esholt tomorrow.
On Saturday Darren Simpson (62) continued his fine batting form with support from Aussie Carl Tietjens (30) as Bilton made 145 all out.
Despite a superb start in reply with Tietjens’ (5-53) ripping through the upper order, Bardsey recovered and had a knock of 45 by number nine Tom Clayton to thank as he helped his side through on 146-9 for their first victory of the campaign.
FOLLIFOOT meanwhile are on the back of three straight defeats in the league. Tomorrow they’ll be looking for a welcome win at home to Colton.
On Saturday in a reduced over game away at Illingworth a swashbuckling 52 from Aussie Pete Sweeney and Mike Halmshaw’s 59 batted them to 156-4.
Their promotion rivals then came firing out of the blocks in response eventually crossing the winning line on 157-5 in the final over.
"The last three weeks have been a bit disappointing," said in form overseas Sweeney.
"But there have been some individual posititves to come from the games. It's important for us to bounce back."
