SATURDAY produced a bag of mixed results for the district’s West Yorkshire League Premier Division teams.
Knaresborough TOWN won their penultimate West Yorkshire League game 4-0 at RIPON CITY, but were slightly flattered by the return.
Knaresborough settled well and Matt Thompson had an early effort disallowed and further chances just wide and the saved well.
Jack Rushworth saved brilliantly to deny Ripon and Seb Carole was just wide.
The opening goal arrived in the 40th minute when Thompson broke clear and crossed for Danny Wright to fire home.
Matt Duerden headed his first goal of the season from Wright’s 48th minute free kick but soon afterwards a Ripon header struck the post.
Ashley Atkinson headed on a corner in the 71st minute and Colin Heath scored the third from close range.
Dan McDaid then got the fourth soon after coming on as substitute when he controlled well and shot home from the edge of the penalty area.
Elsewhere, BOROUGHBRIDGE lost out 2-3 at home to Oxenhope Rec, WETHERBY ATHLETIC crashed 6-1 at Whitkirk Wanderers, and SHERBURN WHITE ROSE lost 2-1 at home to Beeston St Anthony’s.
Knaresborough Reserves went down 2-1 at home to Leeds City reserves in the Alliance after taking a first half lead against the run of play.
Jimmy Dawson, who had earlier cleared a Leeds shot off his own line, saw his cross-shot fumbled over the line by Joe Royce in the visitors’ goal in the 28th minute, the first attempt by ‘Boro’.
Gareth Dight continued to defy Leeds with saves from Marc Saunders, Ashley Walker and Charlie Partington and another shot was cleared away from the line by Dan Berry.
Andy Sunley’s shot was tipped over to end the half and James Purkis hit the side netting soon after half time.
Partington then equalised in the 57th minute when the home defence was split.
Andy Pickles had a header saved and Purkis brought a great save from Royce from the rebound.
Jim Drew headed wide when well placed, Ben King shot over and Berry brought another fine save from Royce before the visitors took the lead in the 81st minute when Jason Miller cut inside before setting up Saunders with an easy chance.
This Saturday Knaresborough travel to Keighley for their last match of the season against Oxenhope Recreation while the reserves take on Old Headingley reserves at Manse Lane. Both games kick off at 2.30pm.
