For Harrogate Town assistant John McDermott the hard work for the forthcoming 2012-13 campaign starts next week.
Town’s squad will report back for pre-season training on Tuesday, just 24 hours after the Blue Square North fixtures are released.
An opening day clash against Chester is Macca’s preferred choice, but he admits it doesn’t matter who they come into contact with when they raise the curtain on the new season.
Every game this season will be a mouth-watering prospect.
Town further bolstered their squad by bringing in talented midfielder Kris Gate from Gateshead, an astute bit of business according to the Town number two.
“He’s a great signing,” he said.
“One thing we looked at last season was the amount of goals we scored from midfielder.
“Kris is a goal-scoring midfielder, hopefully he will fit the bill.
“We’re really pleased with the way the squad is coming along.
“I think the most pleasing thing for me is we’ve brought in some very good players, Dwayne Samuels, Shane Killock, Dave Merris and now Kris, they have really improved the team, and it shows the ambition of the club.
“There’s a real good feel factor at the moment.”
McDermott revealed fitness coach John Gray can’t wait to put Town’s returning squad through their paces.
“It’s not like the olden days, when you didn’t do a lot over the summer,” continued McDermott.
“A lot of the players have programmes in place.
“We sat and spoke together, the management team, and decided we need to be a lot fitter. John’s been great, and we’ve targeted areas we need to improve, fitness was one.”
